The defoaming principle of Defoamer mainly includes the following:
Reduce the surface tension: the defoamer can reduce the surface tension of the foam liquid film, making the surface tension of the liquid film uneven. When the parts with low surface tension are stretched, the liquid film thinens, eventually causing the foam to burst. For example, Silicone defoamer can quickly spread on the surface of the foam, reducing surface tension.
Damage the elasticity of the foam film: the foam film has a certain elasticity and can withstand external interference. Defoamer can invade the foam film and destroy its elasticity, making the foam fragile and easy to burst. For example, polyether defoamer can be inserted into the foam film, weakening its elastic recovery ability.
Promote liquid film drainage: defoamer can promote the rapid discharge of liquid in the foam liquid film, resulting in thinning of the liquid film. When the liquid film is thin to a certain extent, it can not maintain the stable structure of the foam, and thus burst.
Inhibit foam formation: Some defoamers can inhibit key factors in foam formation, such as inhibiting the foaming properties of surfactants, thereby reducing foam formation.
Unfold and replace foam film: Part of the defoamer is able to rapidly unfold on the surface of the foam, forming a non-breathable film that separates the foam from the air, thus causing the foam to burst.
For example, in the production of coatings, foam is produced due to mixing and additives added. Silicone defoamer can reduce the surface tension, destroy the elasticity of foam film and promote liquid film drainage, quickly eliminate foam, and ensure the quality of paint and construction effect.
Another example is that during fermentation, substances produced by microbial metabolism lead to foam formation. Suitable defoamer can inhibit the formation and development of foam and ensure the normal progress of fermentation.
